Description entries
Each page is described under a number of categories, as follows:
General description
This section provides a general description of the page, indicating the type of illustration and any other
noteworthy features of the page.
Illustration(s)
This section describes the illustrations in more detail.
Speculative comments are mostly avoided in this section.
Specifically included are proposed matches between herbal pages and items in the pharmaceutical
pages.
Still under work is the inclusion of the A/B classification of herbal illustrations
according to Koen Gheuens and Cary Rapaport. In order to avoid confusion with Currier's
languages, we will use Greek α for plants with properties that mostly fit with pages
in Currier-A and and β for plants with properties that mostly fit with pages in
Currier-B. This is explained in more detail
here.
Text
This section describes all relevant features of the text on this page, including:
-
The number and type of text items ('loci') according to the definitions used in the
IVTFF transliteration file format (see here).
-
Additional comments about the text layout, and any non-Voynich writing.
-
Identification of Currier language, strictly according to Currier's own work.
A hyphen indicates that Currier did not make any classification.
Currier's definition of languages (and hands) are described
in the transcript of his presentation.
-
Identification of the "RZ language (and dialect), for which
see here.
-
Identification of the scribal hand, according to Lisa Fagin Davis ('LFD hand').
-
a link to the interlinear transcription file version 1.6
prepared by Stolfi (with major inputs from others,
see the acknowledgment)
Tentative identifications
This includes tentative identifications of items on the page.
For the plant/herb illustrations, these often derive from 'ELV' (Ethel Voynich) or
'ThP' (Theodore Petersen, from his hand transcsription of the MS).
Other information
This section may include other noteworthy points or hypotheses about the page.
